Councillor Maifala inspects progress at Brackenhurst Library

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ekurhuleni visited the Brackenhurst Library in Ward 38 on the 7th February to inspect the refurbishing of the library and we are incredibly concerned about the rate at which the work is executed.

When I arrived at the library, I spoke to the stand-in Chief Librarian who indicated much dissatisfaction; stating that the contractors are not always on site, and when they are away, reasons are not given for their absence.

We believe that close attention to detail needs to be a priority, to ensure that work is carried out correctly the first time around.

The DA is concerned at what appears to be a lack of communication between the contractors and the librarian and poor workmanship from the contractors.

While we welcome the improvements already made, we are concerned about the quality of work done at the library. Poor workmanship leads to construction defects, which will cause serious financial implications for the City.  We believe that close attention to detail needs to be a priority, to ensure that work is carried out correctly the first time around.

We are pleased, as the DA, that the Metro is finally addressing the issue we have been driving since 2016. The DA and the Ward 38 Committee have worked tirelessly to see improvements at the Brackenhurst Library.

The DA will continue to ensure that the doors of the library stay open and that the facility is in good condition.

As a party which is committed to building one South Africa for all, the DA continues to be a party that accommodates the basic rights of every resident in Ekurhuleni.
