Service Delivery Days effective initiative in fast tracking services to residents in Ward 38

Following the introduction of Service Delivery Days in Ward 38, the Democratic Alliance in Ekurhuleni is pleased to announce that the initiative is proving to be an effective way to fast track service delivery issues by the residents.

The initiative has meant that the DA, in partnership with Council officials, have managed to escalate the clean-up of 8 Pongola Street and thereby mitigating the health and safety risks by referring the matter to the Department of Environment and Waste Management.

The Department followed up by confirming that a statutory notice has been served on the owners of the property who have failed to remove the health nuisances as instructed. Following this failure to act, the Department has since referred the matter for legal intervention.

The Department of Corporate and Legal Services will now be requested to assist with possible legal action because no contractors have been appointed to do the required work on behalf of the owners.

Furthermore, the DA welcomes the action taken by the Roads and Storm Water Department in implementing the resolutions taken during the visit by the Executive Mayor, Cllr. Mzwandile Masina, following the floods that occurred in April earlier this year.

The residents of Renonkel Street have welcomed the DA’s relentless following up of matters that were raised at a public meeting. The Party will once again lead a delegation of officials to engage with the residents in order to address any outstanding issues that they may have.

At the next scheduled Service Delivery Day, the Ward Councillor, as well as City Officials, will be visiting the Brackenhurst Clinic, in order to understand the pressing needs of the facility when it comes to service delivery.

The DA is committed to ensuring that the residents of Ekurhuleni are able to enjoy quality services as promised in the 2016 election manifesto, as well as holding the Metro to account in creating a responsive local government.

Only the Democratic Alliance can build One South Africa for all.
